Board Meeting Dates

Recruitment

Every year we review the composition of the Board of Directors and look to fill open positions. We seek those with diverse experiences/expertise and are committed to the Center’s mission. We are particularly interested in broadening the diversity of the board’s membership including, but not limited to racial, gender, religious, and socioeconomic representation.

You may nominate yourself or another qualified individual by using the form below.

Nominations are reviewed in March/April.

Selected parties are notified in May.

Vote in August; the first board meeting is in September.

Qualifications
A team player with an interest in early childhood development, who can meaningfully contribute to conversations around financial and strategic goals, long-term planning, and evaluating programs, policies, and the Center’s leadership, with the willingness to:

  • Commit time for regular Board meetings, committee meetings and planning sessions
  • Volunteer at special events
  • Engage in critical thought and be committed to a vibrant future for the organization
  • Prepare for meetings, review and comment on minutes and reports
  • Listen actively and be thoughtful in considering issues
  • Get to know other directors and build a collegial working relationship that contributes to productive conflict and consensus building
  • Actively participate in the board's annual evaluation and planning efforts
  • Understand the fiscal implications of decisions

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership
  • Be knowledgeable about the organization's values, mission, programs and performance
  • Be an ambassador for the organization and promote its work in the community
  • Ensure the organization's financial viability and sustainability
  • Develop policy frameworks
  • Participate in fundraising efforts

To carry out these responsibilities, the Board meets monthly, with a hiatus in June and July. In addition to attendance at Board meetings, you will be asked to participate on committees.
The Board is comprised of at least six seats elected prior to the Annual General Meeting, typically held in mid-October. Terms are for 3 years and are staggered so that no more than half of the Directors are being replaced or re-elected in any given year. Directors may serve no more than two consecutive terms.

There are several ways parents can get involved in addition to the Board, such as the Parent-Teacher Advisory Committee (PTAC), Fundraising, or Community Engagement Events. Please contact the board if you would like to learn more – celcboard@gmail.com.
