Since mid-March, the CELC Board of Directors has communicated with you on a number of topics, primarily about the ways in which we intend to reach our goals of supporting our students, our families, and our teachers during the shut-down. We want to thank you for your kindness, patience, and understanding as we work through this complicated situation. Today, we’d like to share information with you about how we’ve managed so far and when the Center will open.
We are happy to report that the CELC, led by our Executive Director Jo David and our Assistant Director Brittany McConnell, successfully applied for and received a PPP Loan through the SBA via the CARES Act. Our loan application was processed by NBT Bank. Thanks to this loan, we have been able to retain and pay all of our teachers since the Center was closed in mid-March, and we will be able to maintain payroll through June. Several families also made donations to support the Center during the shut-down, and we want to thank you, again, for your support and generosity.
Traditionally, the Center has aligned itself with Clinton Central Schools in terms of when to close due to inclement weather or, in this case, a public health crisis. We are now taking guidance from the CDC, the Office of Children and Family Services, Cornell Cooperative Extension, and numerous community partners in determining when and how to reopen. This past week, the Board voted to align the Center’s reopening date with Phase 4 of Governor Cuomo’s New York Forward plan. You can refer to New York Forward for information about the state’s phased reopening and the regional dashboard at this website: forward.ny.gov.
As we communicated with you in the most recent survey, when the Center reopens, new procedures and practices will be in place. You will learn in the coming weeks what families and children can expect. As always, we encourage you to reach out to Jo or the Board (firstname.lastname@example.org) should you have any questions or concerns.
Once we do reopen, we all will depend on community and mutual trust to weather this storm. We are committed to seeing this through and sustaining a thriving early learning center. Again, thank you for your support, and we will look forward to seeing you in person again soon.

The Clinton Early Learning Center opened its doors in 1973, nestled on the Hamilton College campus as a small daycare program. In 2015 we relocated to the Clinton Elementary School, maintaining our unique and special relationship with the college. In 2016 the center expanded once more, providing a much needed school-age program for the Clinton community.
Our preschool/daycare is in the heart of Clinton, NY. We have four classrooms; The Den, The Hive, The Nest, and The Burrow. We accept children infants to 5 years of age in our early child care program. Our exclusive school-age program offers before and after school care for children enrolled in the Clinton Elementary School, ages 5-12 years old. Children in the Clinton and surrounding school districts attend our vacation camps during scheduled school closures.
The Clinton Early Learning Center provides children with nurturing care and enriching educational experiences that promote children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
Intentionality and relationships are the two themes that emanate throughout our programming.
Many things go into a successful early childhood classroom; the uninterrupted schedule, the carefully selected curriculum, the well-thought-out lesson plans, the engaging activities, the purposefully chosen materials, and the intentional set up of the classroom environment.
Children, teachers, and families form natural relationships throughout the center.
Children form relationships with each other, the teachers, the materials they use, the classroom environment, and with the eclectic, charming Clinton community.
The teaching staff have a comprehensive understanding of these critical components, allowing for higher-level thinking and investigations to occur.
